Rainy Day in Panama City Beach: A Backup Plan

Somewhere in your week, a front will come through and the beach will be off for a day. It’s March. Here’s the plan so the day isn’t wasted.

First: check how long

Most March rain in PCB is a front that blows through in a day, not a week of gray. Look at the hourly forecast; the afternoon is often fine even when the morning isn’t.

The rain-day list

  1. Pier Park. Covered walkways, shops, restaurants, a movie theater. The obvious move, and everyone makes it, so go early.
  2. Escape rooms and arcades. Group activities that don’t care about weather. Book ahead — rain days fill them.
  3. The long lunch. Pick a place with a covered patio and make it a two-hour thing. Cheap eats and breakfast spots.
  4. The grocery run you’ve been putting off.
  5. Condo day. The living room is what you paid for. Cards, a movie, a nap. The group that rests on rain day wins Thursday.
  6. The reschedule. Move your boat trip or parasailing to the next day. Operators expect this in March; ask about their weather policy when you book.

Nightlife doesn’t care

The Club Card calendar runs rain or shine. Foam is wet anyway. The rain day is actually the best night to go all in, because you’re rested.

What not to do

  • Swim. Fronts bring wind, wind brings rip currents, and red flags go up. Safety post.
  • Drive the strip aimlessly. Everyone else is doing it and it’s a parking lot.
  • Start drinking at 10 a.m. because there’s nothing else to do. There is; it’s this list.

During the season

We post the day’s forecast and a rain-plan pick alongside the night’s lineup on the blog every morning.
