The Tallahassee to Panama City Beach Spring Break Road Trip
Tallahassee to Panama City Beach is the shortest road trip on the spring break map — about two hours if you don’t stop, two and a half if you do. For FSU and FAMU, PCB isn’t a destination so much as the beach down the road. Here’s how to do it right anyway.
The route
Head west on I-10, drop south at Marianna or Chipley onto US-231 (or 77), and follow it into Panama City, then across the bridge to the beach. Both routes are fine; 231 is the more direct one. Gas up in Tallahassee, because everything on the way is small-town pricing.
Timing
Leave Saturday morning. The beach road backs up on arrival day in March, and most condos check in mid-afternoon. Arriving at 1 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. is the difference between a beach afternoon and a parking-lot afternoon.
Why the short drive changes the plan
- You can go home mid-week. Some Tallahassee groups do Weeks 2 and 3 as two long weekends. It works.
- You can bring the whole condo. Coolers, a real speaker, the gaming console. Nobody’s fighting for trunk space.
- You still need to book early. Proximity doesn’t get you a room. The timeline.
Which week
Check FSU and FAMU’s 2027 calendars against the week pages. Both usually land in Week 2 or 3.
