Getting Around Panama City Beach Without a Car

Panama City Beach is a long, thin town along one road. That’s either a problem or a gift depending on where you sleep. Here’s how to move around during spring break without a car — and why you might want to leave the car parked even if you drove.

The geography in one paragraph

Front Beach Road runs the length of the beach. The club district — Hammerhead Fred’s, Señor Frog’s, the venues on the Club Card calendar — sits in a compact central stretch. Pier Park is a couple of miles west. St. Andrews State Park is at the east end. Everything you need for spring break is within a few miles of everything else, and most of it is within a walk of the center.

Walking

If you’re staying within a mile of the club district, walk. It’s flat, there are sidewalks on most of Front Beach Road, and it’s faster than a rideshare at midnight in Week 3. Stay in a group, stay on the sidewalk, and carry that battery pack.

Rideshares

Uber and Lyft both operate in PCB and they’re the default for anything beyond walking distance. Two things to know for spring break: surge pricing hits hard between 1 and 3 a.m., and pickup spots outside the big venues get chaotic. Walk a block away from the crowd before you request, and set your pickup point precisely.

The trolley

Bay Town Trolley runs a route along the beach with stops near most lodging and Pier Park. It’s cheap and useful for daytime trips; it doesn’t run late enough to be your ride home from the clubs. Check the current schedule before you rely on it.

Scooters and mopeds

If you drove

Park it at your lodging and leave it there for the nights. Moving a car through the club district after 8 p.m. in peak week is slow, parking is scarce, and unauthorized lots tow fast. Use the car for daytime — St. Andrews, Pier Park, the grocery run, the marina for boat trips.

The real answer

Stay close. The single biggest transportation decision is where you book. A place you can walk from removes every other problem on this page. Walkable lodging options are worth the premium in Weeks 2 and 3.
