What Week 1 is like
The opening week. The venues are open and the theme rotation is running, but most of the big schools haven't broken yet, so the crowd is early-break Midwest and Texas campuses plus people who came for the beach and the price. You can get a table. You can get a boat. You can find sand at noon.
Weather
Coolest week of the season and the most likely to see a cold front. Afternoons in the upper 60s, nights in the low 50s. Pack the hoodie; plan water activities for the warmest day.
Lodging
You have room. Don't wait past February, but walkable club-district units that are gone by October for Week 3 can still be had for Week 1 in January. See what's open.
